ABOUT
Our story
2001
Ballard Global was founded in 2001 in response to a significant breakdown in traditional capital markets.
Amid the economic uncertainty following the September 11 attacks, Founder and Chief Executive Officer Jeff Ballard encountered a sudden and severe liquidity shortfall as banking institutions suspended access to previously committed funding. At the time, he was managing multiple active real estate development projects that required immediate capital to meet contractual obligations and avoid financial collapse.
Rather than pausing operations or accepting compromised terms, he raised $800,000 in private capital from a small network of trusted individuals. The capital was deployed with precision, the projects were completed on schedule, and all investors received the full return of their principal plus a share of the profits. This experience validated a foundational thesis: private capital, when managed with discipline and transparency, could offer both a reliable funding mechanism and a compelling investment solution.
2008
Following several years of successful real estate investments, Ballard Global broadened its scope during the 2008 global financial crisis.
Recognizing the need for greater asset class resilience, the firm diversified into agribusiness, acquiring the Sol Dorado Ranch in Texas. Initially structured for tax efficiency, the operation rapidly scaled into a vertically integrated agricultural enterprise, ultimately managing over 200,000 acres and exporting premium beef across international markets. This move solidified the firm’s philosophy of sector diversification as a risk-mitigation strategy.
2012
In 2012, Ballard Global identified a growing inefficiency in the consumer credit market.
As major financial institutions withdrew from issuing unsecured personal loans due to evolving federal regulations, a significant financing gap emerged for creditworthy borrowers.
Rather than pursue high-risk or predatory lending models, the fund acquired a portfolio of over 120,000 performing consumer loan accounts from major banks and built a platform rooted in advanced analytics. By integrating AI-driven underwriting and nontraditional credit metrics, Ballard Global established a modern lending infrastructure capable of delivering predictable, risk-adjusted returns while meeting an underserved market need.
This strategic move marked the firm’s formal entry into private credit, now a foundational pillar of Ballard Global’s investment platform.
2021
Ballard Global strategically expanded into enterprise technology with an investment in an artificial intelligence platform serving healthcare and insurance organizations.
The company builds custom AI applications that automate workflows, improve data integrity, and drive intelligent decision-making across highly regulated industries.
This addition to the portfolio enhanced Ballard Global’s sector diversification and positioned the firm to benefit from the accelerating adoption of AI-driven infrastructure. By gaining early exposure to scalable technology rooted in real-world business needs, the firm advanced its commitment to building a resilient, forward-looking portfolio—delivering long-term value for investors while maintaining its focus on capital preservation and disciplined growth.
